I've been interested in computers for a long time, but always as a tool to achieve some other goal. No wonder I moved into machine learning – what better than a computer that can learn to do tedious tasks for you? I am also fascinated by the Internet, particularly the way people have colonised this virtual space, creating communities and identities out of electrons, and economies based on information.

I've worked in many different areas, from hardware that tracks buses, running on computers less powerful than an pocket calculator, to software that adapts websites to user's preferences and is in use by some of the world's busiest websites. Along the way I've managed to create some open source software, and most importantly, have a lot of fun.
