Yahoo's Customer Disservice
Sometime in the last two days Yahoo Mail (which I use for my personal email account) broke for me. I can no longer reply to any email; clicking on the Reply button just doesn't do anything. I searched the web, couldn't find anything about it, so decided to email Yahoo support. Below is my email and their response.
The 'Reply' button is broken on my
system (Firefox 1.0.4 on Linux). It was
working till a few days ago, now
clicking on the Reply button doesn't go
to the 'Compose' screen.
I suspect a Javascript error. The
following appears in the Javascript console:
... technical stuff ...
I've tried restarting Firefox and that
doesn't fix it.
Some choice snippets from their response:
Hello,
Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Mail.
We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Your account appears
to be in full working order. We have listed a few troubleshooting steps
below which may help resolve this issue:...
- Add Yahoo! Mail to your list of "Trusted Sites" in Internet
Explorer...
- Switch your browser to Mozilla or Netscape...
- Finally, shut down and restart your browser.
Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.
Regards,
Danny
Thanks for not reading my email Danny! Had you bothered to read it, you'd have seen what you suggest either I've already tried or is inapplicable. In fact you would have seen that the problem is nothing to do with my account, and everything to do with crappy broken code in Yahoo Mail. It's just too bad I can't reply to your message to tell you this directly.
It's amazing that bad customer service is worse than no customer service. Before I contacted Yahoo I merely slightly annoyed. I assumed they'd be aware of the problem (I can't be the only person facing this) and would fix it reasonably soon. Now, as you've guessed, I'm rather more angry. There's a lesson there.

Agreed. I've been down the Yahoo customer disservice path several times over CAPTCHA challenge issues on my account over the last 6 months.
It's become clear that they do no more than a cursory scan of any mail you send them. Realizing this after having sent them 2 detailed messages about my problem was infuriating and I've basically given up on Yahoo now. I'm looking forward to taking my business elsewhere when my current subscription with them runs out.

I am currently trying to get my username back from Yahoo. They require 8 points of identification including the area code I lived in when I started my account (whenever that was?!?!). They also asked for both my secret question and my secret answer - now that is a more 'secure' version of the interrogation method... I responded to them pointing out it works better if they provide the question and I respond with the answer but they only responded with an identical form email.

I had this problem also. When I opened my gmail account it told me my cache was full so I deleted my temporary internet file (including offline content) and it fixed my problem with Yahoo mail also. Thanks Google!

YAHOO MAIL - PROBLEM
I have the same problem and it started around the same time!
It would appear to impact on the multiple selection objects like "reply" and "forward".
Also problem is on my work PC and not my home PC.
I suspect YAHOO has changed something.
Is there anyone else with this problem?
Thanks,
Jason C

Barry, thanks so much. I was having several problems with Yahoo mail, one being the reply button.
I emailed Yahoo support but they replied back with instructions that clearly did not address the problems.
After reading your response I cleared out my cache and now Yahoo mail works again.
I'm using Firefox 1.5. IE had some difficulties as well. A friend of mine is using Safari and was having similar problems.
Does Yahoo not test this stuff?

The problem about Yahoo customer care is that it's non existant. All you get is automated messages back. They leave you with the option to reply to the emails, if they don't solve your problems, but never reply to them. Have been contacting them for 3 months straight now and haven't gotten a reply...

Well do you get any kind of customer service from Gmail?
I have had a few issues with yahoo and although your right they don't very well read the emails eventually they do actually solve the problem.
Remember that mostly its a free service.
I've had some pretty good and detailed responses from yahoo, and in fact right now I'm looking stuff up on the net to see if there is anybody else with the same problem I've got but all in all they are better than anybody else and they are free!!!

Any idea how to get yahoo to let me back into my account? I answered every security question except the zip when I started the account (at least 8 years ago). I have given them evey zip I can think of and have not found the one. They said "how about you start a new account"....great. I did not need the info or emails I was getting. Any thoughts?

Yahoo customer service is a complete waste of time.
If you have mail or account problems forget it.
They dont read your email properly.
It needs a lot of improvement.

Hi there I was searching about ways to complain about Yahoo as I have had many troubles from them - anyway I found the following on their code of practice page - (this maybe only for UK users) - it states that if your complaint has not been resolved within 12 weeks you can contact the member agency stated.
"Yahoo! is a member of the Communications and Internet Services Adjudication Scheme (CISAS). If we have not resolved your complaint to your satisfaction within 12 weeks of your initial complaint or if you have received a letter from us stating that your complaint has reached "deadlock", you may take your complaint further through CISAS.
CISAS C/o The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators 12 Bloomsbury Square London WC1A 2LP Tel: +44 (0) 20 7421 7444 Fax: +44 (0) 20 7404 7150 Email: cisas(at)arbitrators(dot)org
This scheme is administered by The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. You may contact CISAS in relation to any complaints or disputes that you do not feel Yahoo! has dealt with satisfactorily. For more information relating to this scheme, please visit http://www.arbitrators.org/cisas. (Guidance notes and an application form on which to make your complaint are available on this website.)"
Remember - Go by the book - at least 12 weeks after the initial complaint - this organisation is very strict with it's guidelines - if the complaint is trivial or something like your free account has been hacked it is not worth the trouble.

Hey, Jimbo, and Jason, and Danny, and Noel,
Hi, guys. Hope you're all well this evening - or morning...;-)
Anyway, I've been dealing with a similar problem with Yahoo. I've sent FIVE letters to them, jumped through every hoop, including getting a new acct. on a new network, and still, all I get from them are those 'we've received your letter and customer service will get back to you in 48 hours,' etc. The next day, I get one promising I'll hear from them in 24 hrs., etc. Then, that's it. Poof. They disappear into Never-NeverLand, and I write again, and then the chain starts again.
This isn't a 'free' account - but I don't know that it would matter, would it? - but I'm just wondering if any of you fine gentlemen might have any suggestions?
Basically, my account has been hacked into, I'm 90% sure I know who it is, and I need to have someone investigate it. There, too, is a question, which I'd be most grateful if any of you may be able to help me out with. This isn't a financial 'hack' - it's just taking excerpts of what I send out and 'translating' it. They've even created a 'page.'
Anyway. Anything any of you could do, again, would be much appreciated.
Goodnight, good afternoon, or good morning, and thanks so much, even just for listening.
Take care,
KRGPhoenix313@yahoo.com
